In 1991, Lorane Poersch, an international broker of post-consumer recycled plastic, was writing a proposal for presentation to a British corporation. Her thoughts were interrupted by an idea to create a hip, fun-loving character who would entertain and amuse children while stimulating their curiosity to learn more about ecology, nature and science. A star-surfing canine, equipped with way cool attitude and an intergalactic surfboard, was born.

Eddy the Eco-Dog, as the zany pooch is known, is targeted to girls and boys, aged 6 to 12 years, and is widely recognized throughout the world. Logging on from countries as far flung as Japan, Argentina and Germany, children have become friends with Eddy via his on-line animated web cartoon series located on the Internet @ www.Eddy The Eco-Dog.com. In this highly interactive series, children play an integral role in the fun-powered action as they surf alongside Eddy, exploring not only Earth but the universe beyond.

Incorporating elements of a television cartoon and an interactive video game, the Eddy the Eco-Dog on-line animated web cartoon series is designed to make adventures with Eddy extremely interactive and entertaining. As part of Eddyís exploits, worldwide key pals are invited to become Earth Journalists (Earth Jís). In their role as reporters they conduct interviews and write stories about their home planet and extraterrestrial discoveries while hanging ten with Eddy on a thrilling surfboard ride through the galaxy.

Interviews which Eddy conducts with celebrity guests ,such as Entertainment Tonight co-host Mary Hart and Canadian astronaut Lieutenant-Colonel Chris Hadfield, are regularly featured in the Eddy The Eco-Dog series. Each guest talks about about her or his own unique experiences and how they relate to learning about ecology, nature and science. Eddyís friends are invited to submit their own questions to celebrity guests via the cartoon series web site.

Series segments devoted to fill-in-the-blank quizzes, puzzles, word games and riddles encourage additional hands-on interaction, playfully drawing children further into the creative process of exploration and discovery. Eddyís friends can also send and receive e-postcards from the Eddy The Eco-Dog Intergalactic Post Office. Each postcard is whimsically illustrated with an interesting fact about ecology, nature or science.

When heís not busy surfing the stars, Eddy takes time to personally visit his friends on Earth. He has made numerous guest appearances at schools with his interactive educational display, ìRecycle It?î video and activity book. Eddy has participated in Earth Day celebrations such as the Los Angeles Celebrity Earth Walk, contributed to the Environmental Media Awards (Los Angeles) and Environmental Sustainable Development Awards (Canada). Eddy has been profiled in North American school text books, ìExploring Business, A Global Perspectiveî and ìHello Canadaî, as well as the North American educational database ìBridgesî.

Eddy The Eco-Dog is on a mission is to help children realize that having a funny bone makes learning a cool experience. As the 21st century dawns and space missions launch their first flights to Mars, astronauts will peer out of their portholes to see Eddy and his Earth Jís surfing alongside, young pioneers in their quest to uncover the mysteries of the universe.
